- Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.
- In a bowl sieve flour, baking powder, and salt, whisk well & set aside.
- In another bowl mix together brown sugar, butter, milk and vanilla essence.
- Pour butter mixture over flour mixture, and whisk gently to combine (don't overmix)
- Add lemon juice and fold very gently.
- Grease waffle maker with cooking spray or butter.
- Scoop the batter into waffle maker in batches and cook according to its directions until golden and crisp.
- Serve warm, with maple syrup and butter. You can serve with honey too.
